- Salary

You already know how to build complex web applications; what you really want now is end-to-end ownership, modern engineering practices and the chance to ship software that directly improves patient care.
As a product engineer embedded in a small, senior team at our client, a growing healthtech company based near King’s Cross, you will own significant slices of a safety-critical platform used in regulated healthcare settings.
You will be hands-on, an individual contributor focused on product outcomes, designing, building and scaling services from first principles with the autonomy to make technical decisions stick.
With a low-meeting culture, zero legacy code and colleagues who are all staff-level engineers with 7+ years’ experience, this is a place for experienced engineers who want to think in products, not tickets.
What You'll Do
As a product engineer, own and develop one or more product areas end to end, from shaping solutions with Product Leads to seeing your services used daily in clinical environments. Design and implement secure, performant and scalable services in PHP (Laravel/Symfony) and JavaScript, treating non-functional requirements as first-class problems. Write clean, well-tested code using patterns like DDD and CQRS, keeping the codebase modern through proactive refactoring and avoiding unnecessary technical debt. Collaborate with DevOps engineers to ensure smooth deployments, observability and reliability across the stack as your features scale. Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across the full application stack, using them as opportunities to harden the platform. Help shape engineering practices that support clinical risk, information security and service-management standards such as DCB0129, ISO 13485, ISO 27001 and ISO 20000.
What You'll Bring
7+ years’ experience as a full-stack or backend engineer building complex web applications in product-focused teams. Strong PHP skills and experience with modern frameworks such as Symfony or Laravel, plus confidence with JavaScript, CSS and ORMs like Doctrine. Solid understanding of relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL, and how to diagnose and solve performance and scalability issues. Exposure to patterns like Domain-Driven Design and CQRS, and a track record of handling demanding non-functional requirements in production systems. You communicate clearly and collaborate closely with Product, DevOps and other engineers, and you will be in the King’s Cross office at least four days per week to deliver excellent user experiences. A STEM degree or equivalent grounding in software engineering fundamentals, and a desire to use your skills for positive impact in healthcare.
What's On Offer
£100,000–£120,000 base salary. Permanent, predominantly on-site role in a modern King’s Cross office (minimum four days per week). A senior, product-focused engineering team with a low-meeting culture, where individual contributors have real autonomy and ownership. The chance to work with a modern PHP/Symfony/Laravel and PostgreSQL stack, without legacy frameworks or inherited technical debt. Direct impact on software used in regulated healthcare settings, giving your work long-term social value as well as technical challenge, plus a benefits package (details on application). Easily commutable to King’s Cross with direct trains from locations including Potters Bar, Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City, Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth Garden City, Biggleswade, Royston, St Neots, Huntingdon, Peterborough, St Albans City, Harpenden, Flitwick, Bedford, Kettering, Market Harborough, Milton Keynes Central, Reading, Didcot Parkway, Oxford, Swindon, Cambridge, Cambridge North and Leicester.
If you're a product engineer who wants deep ownership, modern engineering and meaningful impact in healthcare, this role brings those together.
