Modern Slavery Statement
Our commitment to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chains.
Consortia Personnel Ltd is committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings and relationships. This statement sets out the steps we take to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and our supply chains. While the turnover threshold in section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 may not currently require us to publish a statement, we do so voluntarily because protecting the people we place and work with is central to how we operate. We review this statement annually.
Our organisation
Consortia is a specialist recruitment agency placing senior and specialist talent in UX, Product, Data and Engineering across the UK, European, US and UAE technology markets. We are a company registered in England and Wales under company number 07184428, with our registered office at Collar Factory, 112 St. Augustine Street, Taunton, Somerset, England, TA1 1QN, and operating offices in Bristol and Cape Town.
Our business and supply chains
As a recruitment business, our role is to introduce candidates to clients for permanent, contract and fractional roles. The people and organisations we rely on include the candidates and workers we place, our clients, and the suppliers who support our services, such as payroll providers, right to work and background checking partners, compliance partners and IT providers. We consider the recruitment sector to carry a heightened responsibility, because agencies are well placed to spot and prevent the exploitation of workers.
Our policies
We operate the following policies that describe our approach to identifying modern slavery risks and preventing slavery and human trafficking in our operations:
- Recruitment and vetting policy, including identity and right to work checks on every candidate we place
- A commitment never to charge work-finding fees to candidates, in line with the Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses Regulations 2003
- Whistleblowing policy, so that staff, candidates and workers can raise concerns without fear of reprisal
- Equal opportunities and anti-discrimination policy
Due diligence and managing risk
We carry out due diligence on the candidates we place and the clients and suppliers we work with. As part of our placement process we verify each candidate’s identity and right to work, confirm that pay meets at least the National Minimum Wage and the agreed rate for the role, and stay alert to the recognised indicators of modern slavery. These indicators include a third party controlling a worker’s pay or documents, several workers sharing one bank account or address, a worker being unable to speak freely, and signs that a person is not free to leave their work. Where we identify a concern, we investigate it and report it to the appropriate authorities.
Our suppliers
We expect all our suppliers and partners to share our commitment to tackling modern slavery, to comply with the Modern Slavery Act 2015, and to hold their own supply chains to the same standard. We reserve the right to end a relationship with any organisation that fails to meet these expectations.
Training and awareness
We make sure the people in our business understand the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking in recruitment, know how to recognise the warning signs, and know how to raise a concern. We keep our awareness up to date as guidance and best practice evolve.
Reporting a concern
Anyone with a concern about modern slavery connected to Consortia, whether a member of staff, a candidate, a worker or a member of the public, can contact us in confidence at info@consortia.com. Concerns can also be reported to the Modern Slavery and Exploitation Helpline on 08000 121 700.
Approval
This statement has been approved by the board of directors of Consortia Personnel Ltd and reflects our commitment under the Modern Slavery Act 2015. It will be reviewed and updated annually.
